“Jam Doughnut” is inspired by the story of Adam and Eve. A man named James Young Simpson was a Christian doctor in the 19th century who instigated the use of chloroform as anaesthesia during childbirth (which eventually led into all form of surgery). During these times when getting operated on patients would be awake with only pain relief. After pioneering the practise of having people be put to sleep for surgery he was met with a heap of backlash from religious folk. They claimed anaesthetic use during childbirth was against the will of God. Simpson responded “My opponents forget, the twenty-first verse of the second chapter of Genesis; it is the record of the first surgical operation ever performed, and that text proves that the Maker of the universe, before he took the rib from Adam’s side for the creation of Eve, caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam.”
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
