“Becca’s Oasis” is inspired by the garden of Eden and the angels protecting it as described in Genesis. I believe the bible has micro and macro levels of understanding to each and every story. Recently one of the new ways I have viewed the garden of Eden is in relation to the human body. The four rivers of Eden, as described in Genesis 2:10-14, are the Pishon, Gihon, Tigris (Hiddekel), and Euphrates. These rivers are depicted as flowing from a single source in the Garden of Eden and are believed to be channels of divine wisdom, abundance, and grace. They are also seen as dividing the earth into four directions.
Not only do I believe this is literal but that it is a reflection of the human heart and the 4 limbs we are made with. Our heart pumps blood to our limbs and the bible specifically talks about the heart and its posture. So much so that the heart is mentioned over 900 times in the KJV bible alone. The word “mind” is only mentioned 160 times while the word “brain” is not mentioned at all. This tells us our hearts are much more important.
The bible says everything we do flows from the heart which is our own individual Eden. From there life flows to our limbs making them “rivers” it animates us to have the power to water others in our lives or to let relationships and situations dry up and die. Looking at the garden of Eden as the centre of our physical bodies should prompt us to ask ourselves; are other people benefiting from the life I live ? the way I walk? and what I make and do with my hands ? Are my limbs rivers or are they dry ? Are they watering and creating my surroundings to flourish ? or are we in a dry wilderness I’ve created and put myself and my family in ?
"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." Proverbs 4:23
